(June 7, 2026) On Sunday 7 June, Lviv Pride 2026 began at 10.00 am (pictured). Participants carried placards reading ‘Love is not a crime’ and chanted ‘Queer, Love, don’t give up your rights’. According to Olga Yashchenko, from the Феміністична майстерня / Feminist Workshop, the event is divided into two parts. The first is a protest against the draft of the new Civil Code. “The second part is a traditional Ukrainian event. We have named our Pride march ‘For True Traditions’ to emphasise that LGBTIQ+ people are an integral part of Ukrainian society and history. We have the same rights to Ukrainian traditions; we want to claim them as our own and show that we have the same rights as everyone else. After all, true Ukrainian traditions are dignity, freedom, democracy and respect, not violence and discrimination. “In particular, the first Galician lesbian wedding is taking place today as part of this event, which we are very pleased about,” says Olga Yashchenko. As is always the case in Lviv, whenever social movements take to the streets—particularly feminists and LGBTQ+ activists—the far right was present. Activists held up placards reading “I support the traditional family”, “The traditional family is a strong state” and chanted “Death to the enemies of the Ukrainian nation!”
This is the second Pride organised by the Feminist Workshop, in partnership with Insight, in Lviv.
